UN declared 2020-2030 as the decade of Healthy Aging, recognising that caring for elders requires an approach that brings together the whole society. As of 2020, there are 149 million people above 60 years in India and in the coming two decades this number will increase to 347 million or 20.8% of our total population.
At Sahyog Jyoti, we are putting people ahead of the numbers. For us, these numbers symbolise people who continue to enrich our families, societies with their lived experiences – grandparents who continue to hold together our past and our future; men & women who have lived lives of wonder, who belong to families, societies, communities, companies, teams or initiatives which once sparkled with their light. Our elders seek a society which is ready to step up and support them at a time when age limits their abilities.

Recent data shows a declining trend in familial support for older adults in India due increasing nuclear families and separation from children. According to a study, parents living alone or with their spouse, without children increased from 22 % in 2011 to 27 % in 2017-18.
Traditionally older parents received support in their day to-day life from their spouse or older children. However, with a large number of young adults migrating out of India, such a close-knit, home based support system is also declining.
While there are many medical support groups, top notch elder care facilities & retirement homes in India; we are still missing a support system that provides varied services, at homes of the elderly.
At Sahyog Jyoti, our attempt is to re-create this close-knit, intuitive, reliable system that responds to individual needs, at per time, pace and space that is asked of us.
